BURLINGTON , Vt. - According to Burlington Police, a suspicious package found near a Burlington home Wednesday night in the New North End was deemed safe by the Vermont State Police Bomb Squad. The incident happened at around 8 p.m.

Police say the resident brought the suspicious package labeled as "Distraction Device" for the military and law enforcement to the Burlington Police Department.

The object was left inside the resident's vehicle. Police say they setup a 50 foot perimeter around the vehicle until they determined the package didn't contain any explosive material. The Vermont State Police Bomb Squad was called into investigate the suspicious package.

Police are advising the public to leave any suspicious packages where they are and not to bring them to the police station. Police say anyone who finds a suspicious package is asked to call the department first and officers at the scene will determine what the next steps should be.
