Fitzgerald was a quarterback on the division 2 football champion Green Knights, the point guard and metro league MVP on the Knights' basketball championship team and played shortstop for the first Rice baseball championship team in 50 years.
"It's really cool. It's awesome, it's amazing." Fitzgerald said Saturday at Centennial Field. "My teammates made me aware of it. They were like, if we win, you're probably the only person to do this. Stuff like that. It's just awesome. Each one's different, each one's new. We haven't won this in almost, fifty years. Every one brings a new twist. It's just unbelievable. Really cool way to go out, couldn't ask for anything better."
