A Richmond principal sacrificed his decades-old hairstyle on Thursday in the name of curing Type 1 Diabetes.
Camels Hump Middle School Principal Mark Carbone challenged his student body to raise $4,000 dollars for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
If they did it, he would shave his head. Well, they did him one better and raised $6,000.
So, his students shaved his head and his signature beard.
“When it's personal to them, they can make that connection, they step up and do great stuff. And I think whenever young people do great stuff, adults should do stupid stuff,” said Mark Carbone.
“People care about kids like me. I mean, $6,000 is crazy. It makes me really happy,” said Camels Hump 6th Grader Ellie Bissell, who has Type 1 Diabetes.
The middle school raises money for one charity a year.
It chose Type 1 Diabetes this year because Ellie and a few other students have the disease.
