FAIRFIELD, Vt. - North Road is back open after being closed for five hours due to an accident involving a farm tractor.

According to Vermont State Police, the farm tractor somehow struck cables near the road around 11:00 a.m. Sunday. As the farm tractor continued to move forward, a power pole snapped. Cables then fell onto the tractor, setting the tires on fire. The operator was able to escape without injury.

North Road was closed for five hours while crews made repairs, but one lane was reopened late Sunday afternoon.
