Construction season is underway. Some areas are prepping their roads for paving.

The Dorset St. and Kennedy Dr. intersection sees a lot of traffic because of South Burlington High School.

“During school, when school's going in and out, that rush hour in the morning, there's piles and piles of cars there,” said Adam Cate, Operations Manager at South Burlington Dept. of Public Works.

So that’s the scene of one of South Burlington's biggest projects this season. The area will be repaved next month.

“8600 square feet. Freeze thaw in the winter can definitely accelerate it so you want to avoid some of the cracking and stuff or cover it over so it doesn't ultimately get destroyed,” said Cate.

That work will happen during overnight hours, and should only take a few days. Potholes and torn up roads are a concern for drivers.

“Whenever I see them repairing it, I'm glad, for sure. There's a lot of back roads that definitely could use some work,” said Christina Kim, a driver.

That includes Butler Dr. in South Burlington. Prep work is already being done there. That is the largest section of asphalt the city will lay this year.

“This will be about 3,000 feet of 1.5 inch asphalt overlay. We're doing, all this structure work and curb work will probably take us about three weeks,” said Cate.

That work will start around the second week of May. Dover Street and Derby Circle will also be repaved this year.

This comes at the same time as state projects.

Crews will be ledge scaling on I-89 near Montpelier for about a month with no traffic interruptions expected.

Route 2 in Bolton is also getting an asphalt makeover.

I-89 south bound near Milton is being repaved. Traffic in that area is cut down to one lane.

Burlington Public Works is doing similar work, repairing catch basins and potholes to get ready for paving season.
