MONTPELIER, Vt. - The Shoreland Protection bill passed the Vermont Senate Friday.

The bill is headed back to the House for another vote because the senate made changes.

The bill would require landowners to get a permit to build within 100 feet of the shoreline.

Supporters say the bill will help protect Vermont's waters from pollution. Opponents say its too costly for landowners, and lumps all shorelines together, even ones that don't have pollution issues.
