Small Earthquake Hits Vermont

A very minor earthquake was observed near the Strafford/Thetford line Friday morning at approximately 2:18. There have not been any reports of damage.

The quake registered a magnitude 1.7, at a depth about 3 miles underground. This location is about nine miles west of Lyme, NH and about eleven miles north of Hanover, NH.

According to the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, the last earthquake to strike in Vermont was a magnitude 2.05 on December 5, 2013 about 12 miles south of Barre.
