Tow Truck Driver Hit While Enforcing Burlington's Parking Ban

BURLINGTON, Vt.  - A male tow truck driver was hit late Wednesday while enforcing a parking ban in Burlington. The ban was street cleaning which runs until May 9.

Burlington Police say Olivia Maccioni, 18, of Burlington, Vt., hit a 21-year-old employee of Spillaine's Towing Company as he was preparing to to tow a vehicle from Unversity Place. Maccioni's vehicle struck the tow truck driver in the right leg as she was passing by. 

The  tow truck driver was transported to Fletcher Allen where he was treated for a broken leg. 

During the time of the accident, police say, the tow truck driver was wearing a fluorescent OSHA approved reflective vest and had his flashing amber lights activated. 

Maccioni received multiple traffic tickets related to the incident. 

Burlington Police are reminding motorists to use caution when approaching emergency vehicles, including towing/repair vehicles.
