FLETCHER, Vt. - Vermont State Police responded to a logging accident in Fletcher Saturday morning.

Police say Carl Eells, 72, of Essex, Vt., was cutting trees along a driveway when a tree caught in the upper branches, fell, and struck him. He died at the scene.

Eells was wearing protective gear, including a helmet, gloves, and logging chaps.

Police say Eells was cutting trees for firewood that was going to be delivered to a farm family that recently suffered hardship. Eells organized the volunteer work.
