BERLIN, Vt. - A truck leaking diesel fuel shutdown a section of I-89 Friday morning.

Vermont State Police say a truck, carrying a tank of liquid ammonia, hit a metal object in the roadway, piercing one of the fuel tanks on the tractor. The truck was leaking diesel fuel onto the roadway and dirt shoulder.

Approximately 75 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the tractor trailer.

Police say northbound lanes were closed from exit 6 to 7 for about an hour and traffic was rerouted to exit 6. Traffic was later opened to one lane after the tractor trailer was removed and while crews were cleaning up the diesel fuel.

The operator of the vehicle was not issued any traffic violations for the accident.
