WASHINGTON - The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has opened two new application sites in Vermont for its Pre✓™ program.

A press release says the Pre✓™ program allows U.S. citizens and permanent residents to directly enroll in an expedited screening program that allows passengers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear, belt, keep their laptop in its case, and place their 3-1-1 compliant liquids bag in their carry-on. Passengers under the program will be able to go through select airport screening lanes which are located at Burlington International Airport.

“This risk-based security screening concept enhances security by enabling TSA to focus our efforts on passengers the agency knows less about while providing expedited screening for travelers who volunteer information about themselves prior to flying,” said Bruce McDonald, TSA’s Federal Security Director at Burlington.

Travelers can enroll for the Pre✓™ program by visiting the TSA's website. The TSA requires applicants to complete their application in person at either of the new application centers in Colchester or Berlin.

The TSA says the Pre✓™ Application Program requires a background check, fingerprints, and application fee. Once approved, a traveler will receive a Known Traveler Number.

Locations and hours of the new application centers:

Berlin/Montpelier Application Site
UES Enrollment Center
963 Pain Turnpike N
Berlin, VT 05602
Hours: Tuesdays from 9 a.m. until noon

Colchester/Burlington Application Site
UES Enrollment Center
332 West Lakeshore Drive
Colchester, VT 05446
Hours: Mondays from 8:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

The TSA began running the TSA Pre✓™ program in December 2013.
