On Monday evening, voters in Cornwall passed a resolution to oppose phase 2 of the Addison-Rutland Natural Gas Project, according to a town official. The vote was 126-16.
Voters in Shoreham also voted against phase 2 of the project by 66-38.
Both votes were advisory and non-binding.
Vermont Gas wants to extend service from Middlebury to the International Paper Mill in Ticonderoga, New York.
Voters in Shoreham voted down another item that proposed the select board not negotiate with Vermont Gas until the Vermont Public Service Board issued a decision on phase 2 of the pipeline. That item was also an advisory but was voted down.
Outside of Town Meetings the pipeline project was also met with opposition. One of four committees that is advising the Addison County Regional Planning Commission on phase 2 voted against the project.
The committee stated that phase 2 "did not comply with the Energy Section of the Addison County Regional Plan."
