Law enforcement raided two massage parlors in Bennington last May. There were allegations of prostitution at the spas.
The owner of the “Cozy Spa’ ended up facing a charge, but prosecutors say they had to drop the case because what was happening at the spa did not fall under Vermont’s prostitution law.
“Vermont is trying to fix a 1919 law that basically described position as only involving sexual intercourse and that created a loophole in our human trafficking law that the whole committee has agreed to fix,” said Sen. Dick Sears, chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
Bennington prosecutors had pushed lawmakers to make the fix. The legislative committee is expected to work on the proposal in a couple weeks.
