ARLINGTON, Vt. - Vermont State Police investigating a burglary found a dead dog at a home in Arlington.

Police say they were investigating the theft of a wood burning stove when they found a dead dog in a barn. Rick Thompson, 47, of Arlington, Vt., told police that the dog passed away due to kennel cough.

Police brought the dog to a vet for examination. The vet told police that the dog had starved to death.

Thompson was arrested and cited to appear in court in May.
