HARDWICK, Vt. - Officials are urging residents and pets to stay out of the Lamoille River until Monday following a large wastewater spill.

More than one million gallons of treated, but non-disinfected, wastewater spilled into the river on Thursday. It happened after equipment failure at the Hardwick Wastewater Treatment Facility.

Out of an abundance of caution, Morristown Health Officer Todd Thomas advises people and pets to stay out of the water until Monday.
