A Vermont soldier and his crew will receive some Valentine's Day love made by little hands and big hearts.

Tots at KinderStart Preschool in Williston were busy Thursday morning making valentines.

Who's the lucky guy? A Westford, Vermont soldier in Afghanistan.

They're being connected through the Operation Adopt A Soldier program.

Teachers say the 3-5 year olds do understand the cause.

“I think they do,” said KinderStart Director Judy Bergeron. “We've been talking about it all week long. And some of the children actually have family members who have been deployed and understand.”

"You do arts and crafts, take a day and do cards or letters or something and I'll ship them over for you. And I said, the guys are going to love it. And this, this is perfect,” said Operation Adopt A Soldier Volunteer Howard Longway.

The valentines and care packages will be shipped with similar gifts from Colchester's Little Tot's Academy.
