Winooski, Vt. - Winooski Police has a new man in charge after longtime chief Steve McQueen retired last week.
Rick Hebert is the new chief of police. He's been a Winooski officer for almost 19 years, the last seven he's been the acting deputy chief.
As chief Hebert says he wants to reach out to people who normally don't interact with the police department, including senior citizens and non-profit groups.
He also says he looks forward to working with everyone who calls Winooski home.
“I like to say our biggest challenge is our biggest opportunity. The diversity within Winooski brings a lot of complex problems for policing that type of community but at the same time it gives us the ability to build some really good relationships,” Hebert said.
Hebert told us he plans on hosting a public safety day in October to help the public get to know law enforcement and other city officials.
