SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - A woman is accused of stealing money from a deceased veteran.

Police say Diana Scarlett, 29, of Burlington, Vt., used 66-year-old Douglas Davis' ATM card and his pin to access his bank account after he died. She is also accused of forging and cashing numerous checks at local banks after Davis passed way.

The incident was reported to police after a worker at a local bank noticed suspicious activity on the account. Police say Scarlett took a total of $2,054.67 from Davis.

Scarlett was arrested on Wednesday and is charged with three counts of identity theft and three counts of uttering a forged document.

Davis died at a Veterans Affairs Hospital in Vermont in April.

The investigation remains ongoing.
