BURLINGTON, Vt. - A woman bicyclist was hit by a van at the intersection of Park Street and Monroe Street in Burlington Wednesday.

Police say surveillance video from Simon's Mobil located at 42 Park Street showed two vehicles stopping in opposite directions to let the bicyclist cross the street in the crosswalk. As the bicyclist was crossing the street a van approached the intersection and hit the bicyclist, launching her into the air and off her bike.

The bicyclist was transported to Fletcher Allen with lacerations. She was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Police say the operator of the van was traveling about 30 MPH over the posted speed limit. The operator was given traffic violations for unreasonable and imprudent speed for conditions and hazards, a seatbelt violation, and a violation for having an expired inspection sticker.
