SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - A woman protester chained to a Vermont Gas door was arrested Tuesday.

Police say when protesters at Vermont Gas Systems were asked to leave everyone except for Sara E. Mehalick, 31, of Plainfield, Vt., left the area.

Mehalick refused to leave the area and was carried from the front of the building to a nearby police car because she refused to walk.

Mehalick is charged with unlawful trespass. She is due in court in June.

Police say there were about 20 protesters standing on the front lawn of Vermont gas with signs, and Mehalick chained to the front entry way. Vermont Gas had previously arranged with Rising Tide and 350.org to allow them to stay and express their views as long as it remained peaceful.

Protesters were protesting the Vermont Gas pipeline.
