Volunteer Firefighter Accused of Embezzlement

Isle La Motte - Vermont State Police say a former volunteer firefighter in Isle La Motte is accused of embezzlement.

Police say Scott Newman misappropriated the fire company's funds from 2013 to 2016, while he served as treasurer.

Troopers estimate more than five thousand dollars was taken by Newman for personal use.

However, police say at this point in the investigation, information shows Newman attempted to return the money.

While Newman was treasurer, he had exclusive access to the account, a practice the fire company has since changed.

Police add Newman was involved with the fire company for more than 15 years but left after his time as treasurer last year.
