Vermont State Police say a woman rear-ended a car on I-89 southbound this morning.
That car then caught fire and the driver barely escaped.
Police say 54-year-old Tammy Thompson crashed into cars backed up on Exit 16 in Colchester. That backup was caused by another crash farther up the road.
A state police sergeant and a bystander helped get 45-year-old Danielle Houle-Charbonneau out of the car that caught fire.
Both women were injured and sent to the University of Vermont Medical Center.
There was a third driver involved in this crash as well, he was not hurt.
