POULTNEY, Vt. - A Poultney man accused of murdering a Vermont toddler has been released from jail.

Dennis Duby, 31, was released on bail late Friday night. According to the Department of Corrections he posted $250,000 bail around 11:30 p.m.

Duby plead not guilty to second degree murder charges back in February. He’s accused of killing his step daughter, 2-year-old Dezirae Sheldon.

An autopsy revealed Dezirae died from blunt force trauma to the head.

A Senate Review Panel on Child Protection was formed following Dezirae’s death. The panel is discussing current state legislation concerning child abuse and protection. The case has also forced the state to take a closer look at the Department of Children and Families’ procedures.
