VT Students Climb Their Way Up to National Competition

RUTLAND, VT - Three students who train out of the Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center in Rutland will leave at the end of the week to compete in the USA Climbing Bouldering Youth National Championship in Utah.

But what puts them over the edge of the competition?

“They train one and a half to two and a half hours a day,” says Steve Lulek, coach and co-owner of Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center. “they train on fitness, conditioning and technique.”

Sage Allen, who has been competing climbing for about 10 years, says you can’t let the fear of heights get in the way.

“You have to trust the belayer and just have fun with it,” says Allen.

Over 500 people across the state will be competing in Salt Lake City Utah.
