Washington County States Attorney on medical leave

BARRE, Vt. - During Jody Herring's sentencing, Washington County State's Attorney Scott Williams was scheduled to take the witness stand, but didn't.
The state has confirmed Williams is on medical leave.
The Department of State's Attorneys and Sheriffs can't disclose why.
Williams has said he grabbed the gun out of Herring's hands on the day of the shooting.
Seven Days recently reported that might not have been the case given new information.
Court documents show Williams was at a nearby gym working out when he heard the gunshot.
Williams was awarded the Carnegie Medal of Heroism, and VFW Valor Lifesaver Award.
Attorney General TJ Donovan, along with the State have agreed to help out, even if it means sending prosecutors to Washington county, to help cover cases.
