70s, 80s and 90s.... Yes! (6/7/2017)

Happy Wednesday!

What a gorgeous day it has been today! Hard to believe we were stuck in the low to mid 50s on Tuesday! Looking at the extended forecast that is not the case so fingers crossed that summer is here to stay! Wednesday night, temperatures will stay on the cooler side under mostly clear skies. Lows will fall into the upper 50s. Thursday will start clear and we'll keep mostly sunny skies through the afternoon. However, I still can't rule out a stray shower or thunderstorm. Most stay dry while the sun is up and we all run toward 80°. As we move along into Friday, there is a better chance for showers overnight; lows fall into the upper 50s. Showers and storms continue off and on through Friday afternoon. We're not expecting severe weather but a few downpours can't be ruled out. Meanwhile, thanks to clouds and showers highs will only get into the low 70s.

Thunderstorms and heat are going to be the big weather topics of the weekend and early next week. As the temperature increases and we get muggier the chance for storms will go up. Adding heat and humidity to storms is similar to adding fuel into a fire to make it burn. In this case, our fire is the atmosphere. The heat and mugginess increases the chances for thunderstorms. The more we have of both, the stronger the storms may get. Saturday and during the day Sunday we're looking at just a cluster or pop up storm here or there. Otherwise, Saturday is looking pretty comfortable. Skies will be partly sunny skies with highs in the mid to upper 70s.

Sunday, skies stay partly to mostly sunny and we'll get a little warmer with a high nearing the middle 80s. Remember the thunderstorms I mentioned earlier? We're still keeping a close eye on how this will play out Sunday night. It's still looking possible that a cluster of strong storms will organize to our northwest in southern Canada. If that happens, it will tend to drift southeast toward the North Country late Sunday night & early Monday. Heavy rain, lightning & gusty winds would be threats. Beginning your work week, Monday & Tuesday will be similar weather days. Each day starts warm with breakfast temperatures in the mid to upper 60s. We'll spend much of the day partly to mostly sunny allowing highs to reach the upper 80s & low 90s. A chance of thunderstorms cannot be ruled out but coverage should be spotty.

If you feel waterlogged, saturated, soggy, weather fatigued or if you're just plain sick of rain, I don't blame you! The weather staff looked back to April 1, 67 days ago as of June 7. Of those 67 days, nearly 70% of them had some kind of precipitation. It's lead to many short term rain buckets being 2-4" above normal! So, the next time someone asks, "Has it been a rainy spring?" the short answer is "Yes."

The weekend is in view!
