Weather: Calendar Says Fall, Temps Do Not (9/22 AM)

Amanda's Forecast Discussion

Good morning!

The Autumnal Equinox at 4:02 PM signals the official start to Fall, but some of the warmest temps all year long are just a few days away. Today, it starts out a little cooler in the 40s to low 50s, but this afternoon it gets right back up to the upper 70s. Light north wind. Mostly sunny skies. Tonight, mostly clear. Near 50 degrees. Saturday, mostly sunny with a few afternoon clouds over higher terrain. Low 80s.

Join Local 22 & Local 44 at Oakledge Park Saturday morning for the 2017 VT Heart Walk. Morning temps bottom out in the 50s, and rebound to the 60s by the time we take on a 1 or 3 mile walk at 9:30 AM. Registration is at 8:45 AM. We're proud sponsors and the official forecast. Bring your four-legged friends and come say hi to the team, while getting heart healthy and helping an awesome cause!

By Sunday, Monday and Tuesday the mercury maxes out in the mid to upper 80s. A few 90° readings are possible in the Champlain and Upper Valleys. Record high temps will likely fall Sunday and Monday, possibly Tuesday, too. During this toasty stretch, the sun keeps on shining uninhibited by clouds. Mid to late next week, the blocked upper level ridge finally starts to scoot east, and it's replaced by a tough bringing more clouds, a chance for showers and gradually cooler weather.

Jose is now a post-tropical cyclone and remains fairly stagnant spinning off the southern New England Coast. Maria maintains its major hurricane status as a Category 3 storm. It's battering the Turks and Caicos, then turning north and northeast, likely staying out in the Atlantic with little to no impacts for the US mainland.

Have a fabulous day and weekend!
