Weather: Lake effect for some, nothing for others (12/6/2017)

Southwest winds have created a lake effect snow band that stretches from Watertown, northeast into northern Vermont. Through Friday morning, this band will meander north and south dropping several inches of snow, mainly in New York. The highest amounts (3-7+") will be east and south of highway 11 in St. Lawrence and Franklin counties. Lake effect bands are usually pretty narrow but anywhere under the band will have snow covered roads and low visibility; you will get slowed down on roads like Highway 3 and 30 north and westbound out of Tupper Lake. A lake effect snow warning is in effect in St. Lawrence County and a winter weather advisory is in effect in Franklin county, NY; both go until 7am Friday. The added moisture will keep a daily chance at snow showers over northeast New York and northern Vermont Thursday and Friday but accumulation (dusting to 2") and impact will be very little. Last but not least, the more south you go you'll have more sun in places like the Upper Valley and southern Vermont; highs will be in the 30s to near 40°.

The weekend will start dry and quiet. Saturday will feature a mix of sun and clouds, highs will be in the mid 30s. Sunday, clouds get thicker and a weak clipper scoots across the northeast. The idea of a coastal storm continues to move away but with this clipper, some of us may squeeze out a couple inches of snow; highs drop into the upper 20s & low 30s. We keep a chance at passing snow showers Monday and Tuesday; highs stay around 33°. Wednesday, we keep isolated snow but temperatures drop like a rock. Highs will be lucky to get into the 20s with lows in the single digits and teens. Feel like December yet?
