Weather: Quiet except for some lake-effect (12/7 AM)

Amanda's Forecast Discussion

Good morning!

The biggest weather story in the Northeast remains lake-effect snow showers streaming off the Great Lakes. Of closest concern to us, Lake Ontario providing hefty snowfall to central and southern St. Lawrence and Franklin (NY) counties and flurries into northern Vermont; as well as Lake Erie sending light snow through the Albany area and into Bennington county. Thursday morning, most of the heaviest snow is south of St. Lawrence & Franklin counties, but the line will lift north into this afternoon with 2-8" or more possible. This would also allow for light snow showers through north central Vermont and into the Northeast Kingdom with light accumulation possible. Watch for slippery driving conditions to develop in the wake of snow showers tonight and early Friday.

Aside from lake-effect snow, you'll find more clouds than sun again on Thursday - with occasional peeks of blue sky. Temps remain steady through the 30s with a southwest wind of 5-10 mph. Tomorrow morning, that lake-effect streamer will lift north of the St. Lawrence River and into Canada, giving us quieter weather to kick off the weekend with relatively clear skies. Mid 30s Friday and Saturday with a light south wind. Sunday, a weak shortwave scoots through with light snow. Then, Monday into Tuesday, we're watching a Clipper-esque system that has the potential to serve up our first widespread snowfall event. We'll be keeping an eye on it!

Have a great day!
