Weather: Strong to Severe Storms Monday (7/16/17)

Torrance's Forecast Discussion

Torrance's Forecast: - Sunshine and highs in the middle 80s, not terrible at all for Sunday. Fun fact, Burlington hit 85°, last time we were above 85° was on June 18th when we hit 89°. For our Sunday evening we are watching a few isolated showers and weak thunderstorms. The main threat with these are moderate rain, and lightning, otherwise we are looking a a solid mix of clouds. Between 11pm and 2am we have the best chance of seeing the aurora borealis, aka the northern lights. These magical lights will be seen as far south as northern Massachusetts, so head out tonight and take in the wonder of outer space!

Clouds will continue to fill in during the overnight hours through daybreak, with morning lows hovering in the low to middle 60s. Temperatures will quickly climb quickly reaching the low to middle 80s during the afternoon, and it will feel muggy. The Storm Prediction Center has most of New York and Vermont under a slight risk for severe weather Monday afternoon. Storms will start to fire up around early afternoon and last well into the evening hours, and should diminish after sunset. The biggest threat will be strong winds, hail, lightning, and heavy rainfall. Not everyone will see a strong to severe storm tomorrow but if you were flooding could be an additional issue. An isolated thunderstorm may linger overnight with a few run of the mill showers last into Tuesday.

Come Wednesday we are in a bit of a lull, look for mostly sunny skies and expect another hot day. Daytime highs will reach the middle to upper 80s. Mid to late week we will see additional chances of showers with temperatures returning to the low 80s.
