Weather: Tuesday Afternoon Brings Severe Weather (8/22/17)

Torrance's Forecast Discussion

Torrance's Forecast: - Good morning folks, I hope everyone had an enjoyable Monday whether you got to view the partial solar eclipse or just enjoyed the warm summer weather. Another warm and muggy day is on tap for us, as strong southerly winds will drive a warm/moist air mass into northern New England.  Daytime high temperatures will soar into the middle and upper 80s, a few select communities might even hit 90°. As I mentioned we will have gusty winds for the majority of the day, between 10-15mph, gusts could reach 20-25mph. Mind you this is ahead of the afternoon storms.

Between 2-4pm a line of storms will approach western New York, arriving into the Champlain Valley as we are all heading out of work. Make sure to have the rain gear as you leave the house this morning. Storms will continue to roll to the east into the evening hours impacting the Northeast Kingdom, Upper Valley, and Connecticut River Valley by 8-9pm. Storm Prediction Center has the region under a slight to enhanced risk of severe weather. What that means is our atmosphere is primed for strong and severe weather. That includes damaging wind that could lead to down trees and power lines, frequent lightning, hail, and torrential rain. A bit of good news, these storms will be moving quickly meaning a lower threat for flash flooding. If you happen to capture any severe weather this afternoon please share it with us at news@mychamplainvalley.com

Overnight storms will weaken, though a few isolated thunderstorms will linger into the overnight hours. Temperatures will fall back to the low and middle 60s with sticky dewpoints as well, might be a night to sleep with the A/C on. More refreshing air is on the way for the middle and end of the week. Behind the cold front dry air will replace the current muggy conditions and temperatures will sit comfortably in the middle 70s into the weekend. A few clouds will linger into Wednesday and Thursday with a spotty shower, though majority are dry. Sunshine will be the only things raining down this weekend, great weather to kick of the Champlain Valley Fair!

Be weather aware today!
