Weather: Unseasonably Cool & Soggy (7/24 AM)

Amanda's Forecast Discussion

Good morning!

'Summer' is being pushed to the back burner for a few days, as the temp drops and showers return. Rain may be heavy at times through Tuesday, but drier, warmer weather returns just in time for the weekend.

Monday, expect a steady temp at first, in the low 60s, then a slowly dropping temp, into the mid 50s by the evening. Rain will play a big role in your day and may be heavy at times. Some morning thunder is likely across the St. Lawrence Valley and western Adirondacks. Even when it's not raining, we're left without any sunshine under an overcast sky. Southeast wind 5-15 mph. Tonight, mostly cloudy with showers. Mid 50s.

Tuesday, scattered showers (as opposed to the more widespread rain of Monday) kick the day off with rain slowly winding down by the afternoon. Clouds may clear just quick enough for allow for a bit of sunshine over northern New York and the Champlain Valley by Tuesday evening. Low to mid 60s.

Big time flooding issues are not anticipated, but during and following any downpours, ponding on the roads and brief inundation of low-lying spots should be expected. About 0.5" to 1" is anticipated for Vermont and New Hampshire, with up to 2" of rain falling over the two days in northern New York.

Wednesday, high pressure scoots through with mostly sunny skies and a moderating temp, reaching the mid to upper 70s. Thursday, a front swings through the region bringing showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms. Upper 70s.

Friday is the only big question mark in the forecast. Weather models are showing differing solutions regarding the next piece of energy coming down the tunnel. Rain may either stay in southern New England or spread far enough north to have folks in southern and central Vermont/New Hampshire reaching for the umbrella. High pressure building down from Canada is then a good bet for the weekend. Sunny & seasonable Saturday and Sunday.

Have a great day!
