Woman Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter in Death of Transgender Man

Burlington, Vt. - A 24-year-old woman pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter for her role in the death of a transgender man, Amos Beede, last year.

Myia Barber pleaded guilty in Burlington on Thursday as part of a plea deal.

Last year, Barber initially pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder.

Court documents show Beede was attacked by five people, including Barber, in the early hours of May 22, 2016. Beede died May 29.

Barber will be sentenced in late November, she faces up to 15 years in prison.
