COLCHESTER, Vt. - Four Vermont high school students are hoping to make a global impression come July, taking part in an international youth poetry festival.
Balkisa Abdikadir, Hawa Adam, Lena Ginawi and Kiran Waqar make up "Muslim Girls Making Change," the first team from Vermont to compete in the Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Festival in more than ten years.
The group performed its piece, "Wake Up America," live on Local 44 News This Morning Wednesday.
The young poets are currently raising funds in order to cover travel expenses to the July festival. Their goal is $4,500. If you would like to donate to the team, click here for more information.
