Williston, VT -- After 18 holes at the Vermont Division 1 girls state championship this week's Athlete of the Week, St. Johnsbury's Sabrina Vieli, was tied at the top. And was happy to leave it there.

"I would've been fine with co-champs but now that I'm the only champion, it feels good." said Vieli after winning the title.

With Rutland already having secured a team title, it was left up to Vieli and defending state champion Chloe Levins of Rutland to decide if they wanted to go to a playoff or share medalist honors.

"I was happy with whatever Sabrina wanted." SJA head coach Rich Alercio said. "Sabrina was happy with co-champs. She's just that type of person. She's just such a wonderful person. She would rather have two people be happy than just her be happy. But once she realized it was inevitable she hunkers down. She's a great competitor, a phenomenal golfer and an even better person."

Her personality is evident. Right after besting defending champion Levins on the first playoff hole she was still insisting that they both deserved medalist honors.

"Chloe's a really good player." Vieli said. "I probably never played with someone like her before. Honestly, I think we're both winners today."

Saint Jay head coach Rich Alercio continued heaping praise on his Switzerland-native sophomore champion.

"Really she's been our whole team this year. The girls just gravitate towards her." explained Alercio. "She makes them all better. She coaches them more than I do. She's just so wonderful for everybody to be around. So I just told her I'm so happy for her. I'm so proud of her. And I'll tell her later that if I ever have a daughter, I have 3 sons, I wish that she'd be exactly like Sabrina."
