Burlington, VT -- Burlington High School volleyball's Blaz Mihaljevic is this week's Fox 44/ABC 22 High School Student Athlete of the Week. It's his passion for volleyball that sets him apart.

"I was beyond excited because, basketball, while I love it, at the same time I'm not sure if I'm completely in love with it." explains the 6'6" Croatian-born middle blocker. "Volleyball is just something different. It feels like a back and forth battle. At the beginning it was really rough. None of us knew how to set or hit or anything, but we've come a long way and I'm very proud of my team."

"Volleyball is a bit of an infectious sport." says BHS coach Charles Dinkladge. "It sort of gets under your skin And you realize when you're going to bed you're thinking about the plays and games in a way that you maybe haven't thought about with other sports. It's definitely gotten that way with him."

Coach Charles Dinkladge is one of the people most responsible for bringing volleyball to Vermont and he's happy to have an athlete like Blaz on his team.

"Volleyball like any sport is driven by a combination of finesse and power." Dinkladge says. "When you have an athlete on the court that understands getting down into the thick of it, pulling out big plays when they need to, it definitely helps and it helps motivate everyone else around."

Mihaljevic's background fits right in with the very diverse Burlington team.

"I think to have a whole bunch of cultures come together and play a sport I think that's awesome. Because we get all sorts of talent. We learn new things from each other, and we all love volleyball." Mihaljevic says.

and, of course, his height makes him stand out in any crowd.

"Being the tallest guy, I mean, I love it." he says. "My height is awesome, I can see over everything. I'm always the first one you see walking in, but that's just because of my height."
