Hinesburg, VT -- Saturday the CVU girls' soccer team clinched a perfect (18-0) season and their third straight state championship. Their final goal differential was 72-1. Goalie Maddie Turnau played in 15 of the 18 wins pitching 15 shut-outs. A perfect season in more ways than one, making Turnau the Fox 44/ABC 22 Student-Athlete of the Week.

"It feels so incredible," said Turnau. "I'm just so proud of my team backing me up and being there. It's been a great season. Our defense is incredible. Defense wins championships. We just kept it out of our 18 and away from me so they just did a great job."

Paige Dubrul had the lone goal in CVU's championship win, and is a former Athlete of the Week herself. She says none of it would've been possible without Maddie.

"It started on offense, we have a five layer defense, and we had Maddie who's just like an anchor of our whole team." Dubrul said. "If it did get by those five layers we were 100 percent positive she could stop those shots. It was awesome having her there."

"Maddie's been phenomenal and to have the streak we had this year is great." said CVU head coach Stan Williams. "I think the funny problem is that I know people think, oh well it's the CVU defense, the goalie doesn't have to do that much but what they don't see is how hard she works and what a great goalie she is.

"Part of what the defensive success was was everyone trusting Maddie in the back so much that we knew if she needed to be there for a save she'd be there for a save." Williams continued. "She's a phenomenal goalie she, she works incredibly hard and she was ready whenever we needed and she made some big saves. All the credit goes to her."
