Shelburne, VT -- This past weekend, CVU's Kathy Joseph won the individual state championship in girls tennis in just her sophomore year. Now, Joseph tries to help bring the Redhawks a team title in the same season.

"I love the girls on the CVU team. They're just a great group of girls and I like having the team aspect although it's not a team sport." said Joseph after helping the Redhawks to a playdown win over Hartford Tuesday.

The Joseph family has been producing great tennis players in the CVU area for several years. Head Coach Amy DeGroot knows the family well.

"The whole family would be on the court. There'd be five people on the court." recalls DeGroot. "Two parents and three daughters. Word got around that they're all really good players. But everyone was saying wait until you get Kathy. I would start watching her and she's completely determined. She's got a fire in her eye and they have a hard time getting her off the court. She just loves to play so much."

For Kathy, tennis is for the most part an individual sport. On the court, on her own, the game has taught her lessons she can also use off the court.

"You're out there on your own and it's also helped me set goals and achieve them."
