Hinesburg, VT -- 2013 was quite literally a banner year at CVU. They hung 9 Vermont state championship banners, the most in school history. That includes their perfect season girls' basketball championship. That team was led by Vermont Gatorade Player of the Year Emily Kinneston and so is this year's currently undefeated squad. Emily Kinneston is our Fox 44/ABC 22 High School Student Athlete of the Week.

"She's been doing everything for us this year." said CVU head coach Ute Otley. "The last couple of games she has scored very well for us. Her rebound has really picked up this year. Her defense is always top rate. She takes on the toughest offensive players for the other teams and I just think she's gotten us off to a really good start."

It says something about a player who, after winning a state title and being crowned the state's best player, spends her summer trying to get better.

"This summer I really worked hard." said Kinneston. "I played AAU with the Lone Wolf program again and we went to some really tough competition. So that was really helpful in improving my game. It's just been a lot of fun. I've been having a lot of fun this year."

"Such a committed team player both on the court and off the court." explained Otley. "What I mean by that is great leadership. Great in keeping all the kids together. Keeping them all involved. Friends with everybody. An excellent student which sets a really good example for the younger kids."

After CVU, Kinneston will continue her education and her basketball career at American University in the Patriot League.

"I thought it was the best fit for me." she said. "I had quite a few schools on my list and I was able to narrow it down to that school and I'm really excited."
