The Catamounts improved to 10-1 in America East and 16-9 overall. Vermont earned its fifth straight win and has won 12 of its last 13 games. UMass Lowell fell to 8-16 on the year and 6-6 in league play.
UVM trailed 7-6 at the 17:27 mark, but used a 13-2 run, over a span of 3:47 and eight points from O'Day, to take a 19-9 lead and never looked back.
The River Hawks climbed back within five, 23-18, with 9:39 remaining in the half, but Vermont used another 13-0 spurt to push its lead to 18 with just over five minutes left in the stanza.
Sandro Carissimo capped the first 20 minutes with a half-court shot at the horn to give UVM a 49-22 lead at the break.
Vermont shot 56.3 percent in the first half and limited UMass Lowell to seven field goals and 30.4 percent shooting.
The Catamounts made their first five shots of the second half and saw its lead grew to 31 with 7:11 left in the contest. Vermont cruised the rest of the way to remain unbeaten at home in America East games (5-0).
Carissimo finished the night with 13 points and Candon Rusin added 14 points. Brian Voelkel added nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Akeem Williams scored a game-high 22 points to pace the River Hawks.
Vermont closes out a three-game homestand hosting UMBC at 2 p.m. on Saturday (Feb. 15). Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game as the Catamounts will be wearing special pink uniforms for the Rally For Cancer/Play 4 Kay initiative the UVM Athletic Department supports each year. The game worn jerseys are being auctioned off online at auction.uvmathletics.com. Proceeds will go to the Vermont Cancer Center.
