"Amanda's father, John. He helped me out during one summer when I needed a job." explained Thomas Friday from his hockey camp at Cairns Arena.
"There were times that he would come over to my house in the morning to meet up with my dad before work," remembered Pelkey. "and I'd be shooting on him in the kitchen. I remember that pretty well."
At the time, Amanda didn't know she was playing kitcher hockey against a future Conn Smythe winner.
"I didn't really even know who he was. I didn't even know he was the UVM goalie." she said.
Thomas didn't know he was blocking shots from a future Hockey East All-Star and likely the soon-to-be all-time leading scorer at UVM.
"I had no idea at that time." said Thomas. "But having said that I was playing for the Providence Bruins, in Providence. She came down for a tournament and I think she might've been 9 years old or something at the time and I went and watched her play. I knew she was going to be something real special then."
ABC22/FOX4 showed Thomas a killer Pelkey goal from a January game against UCONN. (The goal is in the video clip above). He wasn't sure anyone could stop that shot.
"Yea, that was a pretty nice goal. I think that would fall under the category of that's a goal in any league." he said.
