Vermont, which began a stretch of three games in five days against the Black Bears, has won five straight and six of its last seven games. UVM improves to 3-0 in America East and moves to 9-8 overall. Maine drops its third straight game and falls to 3-13 on the season and 1-3 in league play.
"Tonight was a great team effort. Our defense and overall intensity were very good. Our bench did a great job tonight," said Vermont head coach John Becker.
The Catamounts raced out to a 21-5 lead at the 11:08 mark and stretched the advantage to 22 points with 8:18 remaining in the first half. Vermont took a 37-20 lead into halftime after shooting 57.1 percent from the floor and holding Maine to 33.3 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes.
Vermont carried its momentum into the second half, out scoring the Black Bears 46-26. The Catamounts finished the game shooting 57.9 percent from the floor and dished out 20 assists on 33 field goals.
Hector Harold and Kurt Steidl added 10 points each and 12 of the 13 Catamounts that played scored in the game. The UVM bench accounted for 50 of UVM's 83 points.
Garet Beal paced Maine with nine points off the bench.
