Lake Monsters Shutout Mahoning Valley, Break Twenty-One Year Finals Drought

NILES, Ohio - Five scoreless innings from pitcher Jesus Luzardo led the Vermont Lake Monsters to a 3-0 shutout victory over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers and punched Vermont's ticket to the New York-Penn League finals.

With the win, the Lake Monsters wrapped up a 2-0 series victory, and advanced to the league finale for the first time since 1996.

Vermont will meet the winner of Tuesday's game between Hudson Valley Renegades and Staten Island Yankees in the finals.  If Staten Island wins, the Lake Monsters will host game one in a best-of-three series.  If Hudson Valley wins, the Vermont will host games two and three.

The New York Penn League Finals are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 13, and end on Friday, September 15.
