NFL Hall of Fame Coach Tony Dungy Speaks at South Burlington and CVU

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - Two-time Super Bowl champion Tony Dungy is in Vermont, speaking with young athletes and the public to spread a spiritual message.

Following a visit to Champlain Valley Union High School, Dungy arrived at South Burlington High School Friday to speak with memebers of the Wolves ahead of their contests this weekend.

His message to the youth encourages the athletes to grow as individuals by putting academics first, but not forgetting everything else.

"Expending that energy and perfecting your sport is great, but make sure you don't neglect the rest of your life.  Don't neglect the social side, the academic side, the spiritual side. Be a totally well rounded person. You're gonna have many many years to live, not just as a young athlete," said Dungy.

Coach Dungy also shared some football stories, he said the best speech he ever gave was 12 seconds long, and it spurred the Colts 15-point comeback against the Patriots in the 2006 AFC Championship.

Dungy will be Rice Memorial at 8:00 a.m. Saturday to speak with area coaches.
