"Slider Search" Seeks Next Luge Olympian in Vermont

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. - USA Luge is in Vermont in search of its next Olympic medalist.

Saturday at the Champlain Vally Expo Center, team USA began it's Vermont "slider search".

Kids between the ages of nine and thirteen had a chance to try out wheeled luge sleds and take on the big hill.

It was a fun and safe experience for everyone, but a select few that show an ability to control the sled as well as the bravery to go fast, could be asked to visit the Olympic Training Center.

That's what happened to Middlebury's Grace Weinberg.  Now a member of the junior national team, she wound up at a slider search like this one by sheer luck back in 2009.  Now, she's representing her country.

Weinberg recalls, "In Sochi, Russia, the last games in 2014, seven of the ten Olympic Athletes actually started in a slider search, so it's kind of crazy to look around and think: 'Who's gonna be the next bronze medalist like Erin Hamlin?'"

Hamlin  is the only American ever to medal in the sport, but these kids want gold!

The slider search continues tomorrow, to sign up check out the link below.
