U19 Vermont Shamrocks Win USA Hockey Girls Tier II National Championship

SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. - You really couldn't ask for more drama in a national championship game.  The U19 Vermont Shamrocks used a 2-1 overtime win against Connecticut Northern lights to secure the 2016 USA Hockey Girls Tier II National Championship.

The heroes in the game, rivals during the high school season.  BFA's Riley Yandow scored both goals for the Shamrocks while Essex goalie Vika Simons would stop just about everything that came her way.  Rivals during the regular season would become friends today, and get the job done.

After the win, Simons said "I never imagined this, I mean I hoped it would happen but I can't even begin to express how I'm felling right now."

Yandow would add, "I couldn't do it without my teammates.  I mean they're very supportive.  And I'm just glad I could do it for them and win a championship."

"It's great " says head coach Patrick Burke, "It's also great to show the rest of the country that we play really, really good high school hockey in Vermont."
