40 Hours: Burlington At/Below 0°

The Burlington area has experienced another deep freeze, not getting into positive territory for temps for 40 consecutive hours.

According to data via the National Weather Service in Burlington, Vermont the mercury dipped to 0 degrees 5 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, January 21. The maximum temperature never got above the zero degree mark Wednesday, while slipping to a season-low fifteen below Thursday morning. As of 10 a.m. Thursday the temperature began its uphill climb to attempt to break that barrier. Forecast high temperatures in the Burlington area Thursday afternoon were about five degrees above zero.

This was not a record streak per say, but another noteworthy one. Earlier in January 2014 the Burlington area had 59 consecutive hours below 0 degrees. The all time record in the Queen City area stands at 114 hours set between January 7-12, 1968.
