PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - The Clinton County District Attorney's Office charged 61 people in a recent drug bust.

"The largest drug sweep here in the North Country that's every occurred," says District Attorney Andrew Wylie.

After a year of investigating by 80 law enforcement officials from several agencies, prosecutors indicted 61 people earlier this week.
So far over fifty have been arrested for criminal sale and possession of different drugs.

"We certainly have seen heroin in our community but not to the degree that it has been distributed over the last year. 70% of the 61 defendents have been charged with possession of either heroin or cocaine," says Wylie.

Police say prescription pills, methamphetamine, and even a 9-millimeter handgun were also found.

"It used to be very surprising when we'd see certain drugs in the booking room, if we caught somebody with LSD or cocaine. It used to be a novelty. It certainly isn't anymore," says Chief Desmond Racicot, Plattsburgh Police Chief.

But officials say this week's indictments will make a dent in the drug problem in the Plattsburgh area. Major suppliers are now either behind bars or awaiting trial.

"You sell drugs in Clinton County, you will be identified, you will be indicted and you will be prosecuted," says Wylie.

The following people were recently arrested and have been arraigned as part of the in the drug bust:
