MONTPELIER, Vt. - What started as a report of a stolen farm sign, turned into a real discussion at the statehouse Friday.

Turns out, there is a lot of confusion, for both lawmakers and the rest of us. What kind of signs are you allowed to post in Vermont and where?

Officials say campaign signs or ones at a farm stand, must be under six feet in area and out of the way. Bottom line, call VTRANS first before posting any signs.

"Don't put any signs up unless you call and ask for direction," David Blackmore, of VTRANS, said. "In some cases, we can make life a little easier for folks, if they follow the criteria. If so, they're sign will probably remain in place."

Contact VTRANS at (802)-828-2657 with questions about posting signs.
