Twelve Vermont shelters are offering free pet adoptions May 31 and June 1.
A press release says Maddie's Pet Adoption Days, a free pet adoption event for the nation's homeless dogs and cats, sets a goal of 10,000 homes for pets.
The event was inspired after Miniature Schnauzer named Maddie.
"When we look into the eyes of the dogs and cats at the adoption event, we see Maddie's spirit in every one of them," says Founder David Duffield. "We want all of them to have a chance to inspire, love and enrich the lives of their future families the way Maddie did ours."
Vermont is the first state to be included in the weekend adoption event. Locations where pet adoptions are being offered this weekend are indicated by blue points. Click on them to learn more about the hours, pets available, and address.
